A Message from Our Founding Executive Director

Building the national infrastructure for change

To our supporters, partners, and future collaborators,

At Breaking925, we believe that dismantling career barriers for people with disabilities and chronic health conditions — specifically at the mid and senior career levels — is more than a social mission. It is a necessity for a more equitable future, for individual health and financial well-being, and for a stronger Canadian economy.

Driving systemic change requires a professional, structured, and evidence-based approach. Our organizational design reflects this belief. We are intentionally building a solid backbone of functional expertise — from rigorous research and policy analysis to transparent financial stewardship and human-centric HR practices — that spans the country.

While our National Office provides the research and policy backbone, our intention is for our impact to be felt throughout the country through regional mobilization and collective action. We are in a pivotal season of growth as we scale our infrastructure, including:

  • 01

Establishing our inaugural regional presence with a dedicated Ontario Office, serving as a blueprint for future provincial chapters.

  • 02

Building our National Policy Reform Coalition, inviting organizations and advocates from every province and territory to unite our voices for federal and provincial legislative change.

Whether you are a researcher in the Maritimes, a prospective Coalition partner in the West, a Northern community looking to become involved, or a grassroots advocate ready to organize locally — there is a place for you here.

We are looking for leaders, experts, donors, and supporters from across Canada who recognize the value of an experienced workforce and are ready to move beyond conversation into the work of reform.

Thank you for standing with us as we build the national infrastructure for change.

In solidarity,

Lisa Beere, CCIP, RPR

Our Name

Why “Breaking925”?

The name “Breaking925” is inspired by the traditional 9-to-5 workday and the cultural references that surround it, including the 1980s film 9 to 5. Our broken-clock logo symbolizes a deliberate break from rigid, one-size-fits-all work structures that exclude many disabled professionals.

For mid-to-senior level professionals with disabilities and chronic health conditions, the standard 9-to-5 model often becomes an invisible barrier rather than a neutral norm.

By “breaking” 9-to-5, we signal our commitment to flexible, inclusive, and creative approaches to work — approaches that allow experienced professionals to continue contributing on terms that respect their health, expertise, and lived realities.

Breaking925 is about more than time; it is about rewriting what a successful, sustainable career can look like when systems are designed with disabled professionals at the centre, not at the margins.
